The Hero's Journey is about embracing challenges, learning from failure, and making courageous choices. Through real-world challenges, Socratic discussions, and personal goal-setting, learners build the courage and perseverance needed to take ownership of their journey.
Learn to be a curious, independent lifelong learner
Instead of passively absorbing information, learners at Journey Academy take charge of their learning by asking questions, solving problems, and following their curiosity. They set goals, track progress, and push themselves to master new skills-all of which build the habits of lifelong learning.

At Journey Academy, learners don't just study freedom-they experience it. They make real choices about how to spend their time, contribute to their community, and govern themselves.

What makes Journey Academy different?
Christ-Centered
We believe all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are found in Christ Jesus (Col. 2:3). As a result, we are building a culture where students are free to explore these treasures and cultivate their own personal faith.
Guides, not Lecturers
We believe the learning experience is much richer when the teacher (called a “Guide”) offers insightful questions and facilitates hands-on learning. Guides use the Socratic method, always responding to students’ questions with new questions.
Internships
Beginning in middle school, our students will obtain apprenticeships in a field about which they are passionate. They will intern with various professionals such as doctors, entrepreneurs, bakers, plumbers, attorneys, and graphic designers in order to gain real-world skills and learn at the feet of a master.
Learn by Doing
We believe children learn best by doing. Whether it’s launching a startup business, creating a tidepool habitat, playing a musical instrument, painting a mural, or programming a robot, students have opportunities to build real-life skills.
Learner-Driven
Our students take ownership of their education and their peer relationships by agreeing together on rules of conduct, budgeting their own time, and working amongst themselves to solve problems. They learn to think independently, take responsibility, and embrace challenges.
Technology
Using the incredible eLearning tools now available, we are able to provide the rigor needed for learning math, vocabulary, spelling, and grammar in about 90 minutes each day, while freeing up the rest of the day for engaging, project-based, collaborative learning.
